Atlas always describe holding up the earth and sky. He held the eath and the sky as punishment from the Greek chief god, Zeus. Atlas was son of Titan, a greek god and sea nymph, Clymene. Then, one day Atlas and the other goods rebelled against Zeus and the other Olympian god and goddesses. But, the war was unsuccessful. Then Zeus punished Atlas by forcing him to stand and support the sky and the earth on his shoulders forever. And according to the myth, Atlas stood in the northwest region of what is now called Africa.
